BY EMMA SALETTA PUBLISHED APR 17, 2022

Chance the Rapper spent his 29th birthday at a meal giveaway he organized in Chicago.

Artist Chance the Rapper is now twenty-nine, and he made sure to celebrate his birthday on a high note. The rapper posted a video on his Instagram of a holiday meal giveaway in South Side Chicago. Not only did it show people accepting food and taking out food from trucks, but it also showed someone dancing in a Chance the Rapper costume.

The event took place at the Discover Customer Care Center in the morning on Apr. 16. Although he wasn't in the video, the "No Problem" artist worked with volunteers. Chance previously announced that containers of his collaboration with Ben and Jerry's ice cream, Mint Chocolate Chance, would be given out at the charitable event, which can be seen in the video.

Although he mainly celebrated his birthday through the meal giveaway, he also posted photos on his Instagram, along with a caption that said, "Best gift u can get me is showing someone they’re a child of God today." Following the success of the South Side Chicago event, it was confirmed by collaborators that at least 1,500 free meals were given to the community.

Chance The Rapper Has Organized Several Charity Events In The Past

Outside of music, Chance has been big on philanthropy, primarily in the Chicago area. He created the non-profit organization SocialWorks in 2016, which was founded in support of Chicago Public Schools. It has since raised money for social issues that affect Chicago's youth, such as education, homelessness, and mental health support. The organization also aims to create spaces and bring visibility to Chicago's artistic community.

SocialWorks has stuck by Chance throughout his career, and they even wished the artist a happy birthday on their Instagram. The video is of Chance with Stephen Colbert, in which he promoted his new ice cream flavor, mint chocolate chance. He then confirmed that all the proceeds from that ice cream would go to SocialWorks.

Another one of his latest projects was visiting Westcott Elementary, a school that SocialWorks has helped in the past. The kids poured green slime in honor of the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, and Chance was more than thrilled to play with them afterward. He then surprised them by announcing that Nickelodeon was donating $10,000 to their school.

Throughout His Philanthropic Efforts, He's Still Active In Music

Not only is he active in music, but he's also releasing new music, most recently "Child of God." During his music break, Chance visited Ghana to meet singer and rapper Vic Mensa. He met several other musicians there, and has said that his Ghanaian name is Nana Kofi Boa-Ampensom. He has said multiple times that he hopes to revisit Ghana soon. It has since become the inspiration behind his new music, including his unreleased work.

As of this publication, Chance has not given any more hints on new releases, and he has not confirmed an album or mixtape release date. However, he's shown gratefulness to those who've sent him birthday wishes, including Lil Yachty.
