In a city as vibrant and diverse as Chicago, it’s easy to overlook just how many of our neighbors are facing food insecurity. Across our communities, families are making impossible choices—between groceries and rent, medicine and meals. At SocialWorks, with our initiative Warmest Winter, we aim to combat that choice by providing basic meals through community events and partnerships.
That’s why we’re proud to team up once again with Conscious Alliance, Discover, Taste for the Homeless, and Gyrls in the H.O.O.D. to host another free Ham Giveaway and Spring Block Party—a celebration of community, compassion, and care.
📅 Saturday, April 12th
🕙 10AM–1PM
📍 Discover Customer Care Center, 8560 S. Cottage Grove Ave.
Whether you're picking up a holiday meal for your family or just looking to connect with neighbors, everyone is welcome. Stop by for a free ham and grocery gift card, fresh, warm food prepared by Taste For The Homeless, entertainment by the legendary DJ SUNDANCE, and community mascots, music, and a festive spring vibe. Walk-up and drive-thru options are available—if you're coming on foot, we recommend bringing a cart or wagon to carry your items home with ease.
Food insecurity affects 1 in 5 households in Chicago, with even higher rates in Black and Brown communities on the South and West Sides. It's not just about hunger—it's about dignity, access, and the right to live with basic needs met.
Events like this one are more than giveaways—they are reminders that we are stronger when we care for one another. That when organizations, neighbors, and partners come together, we can create moments of joy and relief during difficult times.
So come out, grab a plate, connect with community, and take home something special this spring. Whether you’re receiving or giving, you’re part of something bigger. And that’s what SocialWorks is all about.
We’ll see you April 12th!
