After an electrifying performance at the NHL Discover Winter Classic at Wrigley Field, Chicago’s own Chance the Rapper turned the spotlight toward giving back. Chance, along with SocialWorks—the nonprofit he founded—was presented with a $100,000 donation from the NHL, the Blackhawks, and the NHLPA. This generous gift will directly benefit SocialWorks’ Kids of the Kingdom (KOK) summer camp, a program that combines faith-based learning, creative exploration, and essential life skills for children aged 5-13.
The KOK summer camp has long been a cornerstone of SocialWorks' mission to inspire youth and create meaningful opportunities for growth. With this new funding, the camp will introduce hockey initiatives like ball hockey and Learn to Skate programs, giving children exposure to a sport that promotes teamwork, resilience, and determination. These additions will not only enrich the camp’s curriculum but also align with SocialWorks’ goal of broadening horizons for Chicago’s young people.
Since its inception, SocialWorks has been dedicated to empowering youth through innovative programming, including mental health support, arts education, and community outreach. From OpenMike events, which provide young creatives a stage to showcase their talents, to the Warmest Winter initiative that aids those experiencing homelessness, SocialWorks strives to leave a lasting impact on Chicago’s communities.
This partnership with the NHL and the Blackhawks exemplifies the power of collaboration in creating positive change. Together, we’re not just introducing kids to hockey—we’re fostering values like discipline, teamwork, and perseverance while providing safe spaces for growth and self-expression.
SocialWorks is grateful for this support, which brings us closer to our mission of empowering Chicago’s youth. Join us as we continue to create opportunities that make a difference in the lives of children, families, and communities across the city.
